For the second year in a row, the prestigious Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has recognized eight Volkswagen models as Top Safety Picks.2 And, after passing an even more rigorous test, the Volkswagen Passat was honored with a new distinction: Top Safety Pick+ (for models built after Oct. 2012).3 We could get used to this.
All eight models received a good rating in all four tests:

2013 Beetle
The car that started it all is still a safe bet. The 2013 Beetle has earned a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "Overall" means it didn't just do well in one category — it did well in all of them. That's serious safety in a fun package.
